Yeah, I'm breaking my own rule of posting the same thing in more than one board. sue me.

As many of you know there has been a lot of things going on with the Rkstar Open Mic. One of the things those who came last night noticed, is that the Van Dyck management started a $4 minimum... to prevent a majority of the audience from coming and not buying anything. It's something they're experimenting with, and I'm not sure if it will last. It definitely had an impact on the audience size last night, as there were only about 1/3 of the normal audience there. Though at the same time, the people who were there, stayed for most of the night (compared to normal nights with a lot of people coming and going). How it works is you buy a $4 ticket when you walk in, and its good for $4 off any food or drink. The Van Dyck just wants to make sure they're getting $4 per person spent on food. If you don't want anything, and a friend is spending $8 on food and drink, you can sell your ticket to them for $4, so you essentially can still go without spending any money. I also believe after 10pm they no longer require you to buy a ticket because the kitchen closes, so if you have no cash, you can still catch half the show. Alright, moving on... next Thursday is Thanksgiving. We took a vote, and decided to have an open mic on Thanksgiving day. We did it last year, and it went ok. So unless I reply to this thread saying otherwise (check before leaving your house), there WILL BE an open mic on Turkey Day. Lastly, just a reminder- December 2 is covers night, where as many people as can, will cover other open mic performers original songs. It sounds like its going to be a real fun night.
