i've been thinking of going to their open mic for a long time, since it's been "voted best open mic 4 years running" and it sounded great in the article a few weeks back. So, Aug 6th, bus ride, get their early, 7:30 pm, wanted to sign up early, someone came in that i thought might be John Brodeur and i think i ended up bugging him, sorry. Then i complained to Tess that iwanted to play first, guess i bugged her, sorry--but does this mean i'm NOT charming? So i played 4th, patman is my stage name. It sounds pretentious to get attention and make up for my mild mannered demeanor. Actually when i played i got a great response and one guy kept saying "that was great" and we shook hands. Then three other people said i was great. Wow, i have a fake life! And i was cool, i didn't trash the stage or set the place on fire or anything. Ok week one...misunderstading.

Next week was great, i saw this guy and i said is that a ukulele? It turned out to be a "Banjovie", cool. Then i saw a guy Rob that i know from another open mic, then this guy rick starts taking to me and he was totally supportive and said, "i can tell by the way you talk that you're gonna be great", i can't wait to hear you play. Then i saw two guys that said i was great last week. I'm just saying this to point out that everything was going well and positive and friendly. Ok, misunderstanding #2. i was at the bar telling someone i was going to play open mic and the next thing i know this guy looks at me and says, "you're ugly" and points to the back room, then the bouncer asks me to leave and wouldn't say why and when i was finally leaving after i told him my credit card was in there he said, "you're not welcome here"..."Where good friends meet". i was just staring to get into that part. So am i allowed to play open mic there? Because i have absolutely no idea why not.
