Hey, I figured I'd be the one to get this one goin. Thanks everyone for the awesome open mic last night and all the birthday wishes and everything. Ashley and Val for the cakes, and for the very first song (that I know of at least) written about me! And it put me in a pretty good light too so that's a plus as well. I recorded audio of a few of the performances as well and will hopefully put a few clips of those online at some point. Next Thursday- the very first Rkstar Open Mic!

Dan, Thursday was a ton o fun. I'm glad you liked the cakes. Ash and I had fun making the cakes. And the writing of the parody was fun too, when I had to try to think of things that rhymed with Goodspeed. Glad you liked the birthday celebration. I can't wait for this Thursday for the new Rkstar open mic! Even though I'll be late, work sucks!

Hello, my name is Kevin DeMarco, I am a college student and I have a band here in the Capital District for the summer. I was wondering what kinds of acts perform at the open mics? Is it only acoustic, or are more funk rock bands allowed too? I am thinking of coming to the next open mic, which would be 17th I believe, correct?

We have all kinds play at the open mic. It is mostly acoustic types, though funk is not only allowed, but it is encouraged! The one trick to bands is a fast set up time. Because the night's are often crowded, we try to rush people between sets the best we can so we can get to everyone. We usually only have 2 DI's (though we're thinking about getting another) so as long as you don't have more than 2 instuments needing to be plugged in you should be good. and it'd be even better if you bring your own patch cables and have them already plugged into the guitars as you're walking up on stage (remember- cables get plugged into the guitars BEFORE into the DIs!). The next issue is the next open mic... turns out the legendary jazz musician John Scofield called dibs on the room for next week long before we had a chance to... so there will be no open mic next week, but rest assured, I plan to make the June 24 Open Mic the biggest open mic yet!!!
